What Sinai Group Expeditions look like
Through Desert & Mountain Lands
From there, the expedition moves on foot across Bedouin territories between the Red Sea coast and the mountains surrounding Saint Catherine. Guided by local Bedouin teams, travellers cross rocky plateaus, valleys and mountain trails, spending nights in remote settlements and camps beneath the stars.
Days follow a physically active but accessible rhythm, with one or two easy (non-technical) summits of beautiful peaks.
Hunak group expeditions in Sinai last nine days and are built around a six-day supported crossing through the deserts and mountains of South Sinai.
The journey begins quietly in a local farm near Nuweiba, surrounded by olive trees and horses, where travellers rest after arrival and prepare for the expedition ahead.
Returning from the Expedition
Following the desert crossing, the group returns to the farm in Nuweiba for rest, shared meals and time to slow down after several days of movement. Travellers are also offered to take part in a horsemanship workshop focused on ground work and the relationship between horses, trust and emotional regulation.
Final Day by the Red Sea
Before departure, the journey concludes with one final day in Dahab, allowing time to rest by the Red Sea and transition gradually out of the expedition environment.
*Detailed itineraries are shared with confirmed participants prior to departure.
Design your Journey
For travellers seeking different dates, longer expeditions or more specialised outdoor experiences, Hunak also organises private journeys across the Sinai desert and mountains.
Flexible Expedition Design
Private journeys can also include the expedition designed for our group departures adjusted to meet your preferred pace and duration.
Outdoor Activities & Extensions
Depending on the season and each client's preferences, private journeys can be designed around some other outdoor activities like climbing courses and trips (for every level), horse riding, free diving, longer stays in Dahab or time spent in local Bedouin communities and farms.
Bedouin Territories & Local Expertise
All private expeditions maintain Hunak’s operational philosophy: movement through landscapes, small expedition teams, trusted local guides and carefully structured field logistics developed with experienced local partners.
*Tell us about your travel dates, group size and expedition goals to begin planning your Sinai journey.
Access and Visa Requirements
Most travellers arrive through Sharm El Sheikh International Airport, located approximately one hour from the expedition starting area. Egypt offers visa-on-arrival and e-visa options for many nationalities.
Key Practical Information
Physical Level - Active
Sinai expeditions are physically active journeys and involve several consecutive days of walking through desert and mountain terrain. Participants do not need previous trekking experience, though they should feel comfortable walking 5–7 hours per day on varied terrain, including rocky plateaus, valleys and mountain trails.
Comfort & Accommodation
The expedition combines several nights in Bedouin settlements and desert camps with stays in comfortable accommodation in Nuweiba and Dahab. Conditions in the desert are simple and rustic, with limited access to showers and conventional facilities during the expedition days.
Best Season to Visit
Hunak experiences in Sinai operate between September and June, when conditions are ideal for walking and camping in the desert and mountains. Days are generally mild, while nights in higher elevations can become cold.
Small Group Policy
For all its expeditions and experiences, Hunak maintains a small-group approach to preserve the quality and rhythm of the journey. Sinai groups are limited to a maximum of 8 participants. For private journeys, group size can reach 10 individuals.
Expedition support and camping gear
Travellers carry only light daypacks during the expedition. Camels transport the main equipment, luggage and camp supplies between settlements and campsites. Travelers should bring their own sleeping bag, no other special camping equipment is necessary. More details are made available during the booking process.
Safety & Local Context
Hunak never operates journeys in places that are not safe. In Sinai, our activities run exclusively in South Sinai, between Dahab and Saint Catherine, areas that have long welcomed international travellers and outdoor communities. All journeys are operated with trusted local Bedouin partners, experienced guides and carefully structured field logistics.
