Our Approach

What a Journey Means to Us

For Hunak, a journey is an experience that leaves a mark. It begins with the decision to step toward what feels distant and unfamiliar. We design multi-day outdoor expeditions that transform remote places into lived environments — not through observation alone, but through movement, presence and engagement.

Outdoor movement is the foundation of our work

Hiking in the wilderness, crossing deserts, climbing mountains. We choose active forms of exploration. Physical engagement changes perception: it slows attention and deepens awareness. Through effort and exposure, unfamiliar landscapes become inhabited spaces rather than passing scenery.

Outdoor as a Gateway
Culture Through Proximity

We chose outdoor exploration as our favorite way of drawing closer to local communities and different ways of living. Through shared routes, conversation and respectful presence.

Who Our Journeys Are For

Hunak journeys are designed for travellers willing to engage actively with the environments they enter. Our itineraries involve physical movement, adaptable conditions and small-group dynamics. They do not require extreme performance, but they do require willingness — to move, to adjust and to experience places as they are.

Our Operating Principles

Each Hunak journey is built through structured preparation and field assessment before launch. Safety management is integrated from design to delivery, including pre-departure briefings, clear activity requirements and defined communication protocols. We maintain small groups to ensure logistical and operational quality, and allow meaningful engagement with new, unfamiliar contexts.

Rooted in Local Collaboration

We work with locally owned providers who operate within their own communities. Our aim is long-term collaboration grounded in trust, quality and shared standards. Travelling responsibly, for us, is practical: fair partnership, respect for customs and minimised impact within the environments we enter.

Not staged encounters. Not curated folklore.

But structured opportunities for genuine contact grounded

in mutual awareness.

A Word from Founder

Over the past eight years, my professional path in the humanitarian field brought me to regions across Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Often relocating with little notice, I learned how movement reshapes perception. Time spent in the Sinai desert reinforced a conviction: structured outdoor exposure creates meaningful proximity to culture. Hunak — “over there” in Arabic — reflects that decision to step toward what feels distant. Today, it stands as a structured platform for journeys designed with careful preparation and respect.

“To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life”

Cit. from the movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
